Sec. § 1701.257
Firearms Training Program for Supervision Officers


The commission and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice by rule shall adopt a memorandum of understanding that establishes each agency’s respective responsibilities in developing a basic training program in the use of firearms by community supervision and corrections department officers and parole officers. The program established under the memorandum of understanding must provide instruction in:


legal limitations on the use of firearms and on the powers and authority of the officers;


range firing and procedure;


firearms safety and maintenance; and


other topics determined by each agency to be necessary for the responsible use of firearms by the officers.


The commission shall administer the training program and shall issue a certificate of firearms proficiency to each community supervision and corrections department officer or parole officer the commission determines has successfully completed the program.
