Tex. Labor Code Section 502.023
Insurance Requirement

(a)

The board of regents of the system may require each employee, as a condition of employment, to acquire protection under a group life and accident insurance plan approved by the board.

(b)

This section does not apply to an employee who is paid on a piece-work basis or on any basis other than by the hour, day, week, month, or year.
