Tex. Health & Safety Code Section 791.024
Additional Fire Escapes for Nonschool Public Buildings


(a)

This section applies to a building, other than a school building, that is owned by this state or by a municipality or county of this state and in which public assemblies or sleeping apartments are permitted on any floor above the first floor.

(b)

Each building subject to this section and Section 791.002 (Fire Escape Required) that has a lot area greater than 5,000 square feet shall provide, in addition to the fire escape required by Section 791.002 (Fire Escape Required), one additional fire escape for:

(1)

each 5,000 square feet of area in excess of the initial 5,000 square feet; and

(2)

the area in excess of the largest multiple of 5,000 square feet contained in the building’s lot area if that excess is more than 2,000 square feet.

(c)

Each person who has charge or supervision of a facility subject to this section, or who has charge or supervision of the letting of contracts for the construction of the facility, shall comply with this chapter.
