Health & Safety Code Section 12.092
Medical Advisory Board; Board Members
(a)
The commissioner shall appoint the medical advisory board members from:(1)
persons licensed to practice medicine in this state, including physicians who are board certified in internal medicine, psychiatry, neurology, physical medicine, or ophthalmology and who are jointly recommended by the department and the Texas Medical Association; and(2)
persons licensed to practice optometry in this state who are jointly recommended by the department and the Texas Optometric Association.(b)
The medical advisory board shall assist the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas in determining whether:(1)
an applicant for a driver’s license or a license holder is capable of safely operating a motor vehicle; or(2)
an applicant for or holder of a license to carry a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H (Definitions), Chapter 411 (Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas), Government Code, or an applicant for or holder of a commission as a security officer under Chapter 1702 (Private Security), Occupations Code, is capable of exercising sound judgment with respect to the proper use and storage of a handgun.
