Compensation for Assisting Voters Prohibited


(a)

A person commits an offense if the person:

(1)

compensates or offers to compensate another person for assisting voters as provided by Section 86.010 (Unlawfully Assisting Voter Voting Ballot by Mail); or

(2)

solicits, receives, or accepts compensation for an activity described by Subdivision (1).

(b)

Repealed by Acts 2021, 87th Leg., 2nd C.S., Ch. 1 (S.B. 1), Sec. 10.01(2), eff. December 2, 2021.

(c)

An offense under this section is a state jail felony.

(d)

An officer, director, or other agent of an entity that commits an offense under this section is punishable for the offense.

(e)

For purposes of this section, compensation means an economic benefit as defined by Section 38.01 (Definitions), Penal Code.

(f)

This section does not apply if the person assisting a voter is an attendant or caregiver previously known to the voter.
