Program
(a)
The department shall establish and administer a program under this subchapter to increase the number of physicians providing primary care in medically underserved communities.(b)
A medically underserved community may sponsor a physician who has completed a primary care residency program and has agreed to provide primary care in the community by contributing start-up money for the physician and having that contribution matched wholly or partly by state money appropriated to the department for that purpose.(c)
A participating medically underserved community may provide start-up money to an eligible physician over a two-year period.(d)
The department may not pay more than $25,000 to a community in a fiscal year unless the office makes a specific finding of need by the community.(e)
The office shall establish priorities so that the neediest communities eligible for assistance under this subchapter are assured the receipt of a grant.
